| After breakfast we have a city tour in Vologda. The Spaso-Prilustky Monastery, situated in the bend of the Vologda river looks more like a town out of a fairy tale than anything else. It is now a museum consisting of twenty-five masterpieces of stone architecture of the Russian North dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries and including fortress walls and towers, churches and belfries. The wooden Church of Dormition, brought here from afar off, stands on the vast territory of the Monastery and it is the oldest of all present-day wooden structures in the North of Russia. The old churches scattered about the town are a joy to the eye. We visit the museum of Old Russian painting after lunch. Vologda is also famous for the original craft of lace-making. We return to our train in the evening. Dinner on board. Departure to Yaroslavl. | |

| After breakfast we spend the day in Yaroslavl, beautifully
situated at the confluence of the Volga and Kotorosl rivers. Founded in
1010 by Prince Yaroslavl the Wise, Yaroslavl - often called the
"Russian Florence" - is a treasure house of historic
monuments. At the busting main square is the Church of St.Elijah, with
striking frescoes and paintings. We will also visit the Transfiguration
Monastery, with a fine icon collection. After lunch in the city we
transfer to Rostov the Great. Here you will see the monastery of S.S.
Boris and Gleb, the Kremlin of Rostov and Cathedral of the Epiphany in
Abraham's Monastery. We return to our train in the evening. Departure to
Moscow. Dinner on board. Arrival in Moscow about 10 p.m.
