Siberia is an enormous territory of Russia stretching eastward from the Ural Mountains. To most tourists Siberia seems to be a very cold land. Yes, the winter here are snowy and cold. But even on the coldest days the sun shines brightly, not in the usual wintry way, and the air is still, which makes the frost easy to weather. In any event, hardly any tourists decline pinches in the winter taiga or strolls on the ice of 1'000-metre-deep Lake Baikal. In spring, as soon as the snow melts, the slopes of the sun-warmed mountains (in Siberia they are called hills) become a glow with violet-pink rhododendrons. And the summer Mother Nature hurries to take revenge on the long winter.
